Bankruptcy Services & Certificates
Step One:
Pre-Filing Bankruptcy Counseling
If you’re considering filing for bankruptcy, your first step is to complete a bankruptcy counseling session with one of our professional counselors. After closely reviewing your unique situation, we’ll help you decide whether filing for bankruptcy is the best decision for you, or identify whether there is an alternative solution to improving your financial situation. Participants will receive a pre-filing bankruptcy certificate.
Step Two:
Pre-Discharge Bankruptcy Education Class
If you’re nearing the end of your bankruptcy, Advantage CCS provides affordable classes to help you learn how to develop a household budget, money management skills, and how to use credit wisely in the future. With this education, you’ll be more prepared than ever to get rid of the financial stress in your life for good. Individuals will have already gone through the pre-filing bankruptcy counseling. Participants will receive a pre-discharge bankruptcy certificate.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
It’s a federal law that prior to filing for personal bankruptcy, you must complete a pre-filing bankruptcy counseling session from a non-profit organization, like Advantage CCS. This provision of federal bankruptcy law ensures that you understand all of your options and that you have the necessary knowledge and tools to develop a sound financial plan for the future. You can complete this session with Advantage CCS online, over the phone or in-person.

We Offer Advice. You Make The Decision.
Because we are a non-profit credit counseling agency, we won’t tell you whether you should file or not. Instead, we’ll review your situation, and if we think filing for bankruptcy can help you, we’ll offer to enroll you in our bankruptcy counseling and education services. After completion, you’ll receive an official Bankruptcy Certificate, which allows you to begin the process of gaining back control of your finances. You’ll also be more prepared than ever to not only begin a fresh start, but also stick to a plan for a more secure future.
What is a Bankruptcy Certificate & Why Do You Need One?
It stems from The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. This law requires all Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy petitioners to provide the court with a certificate of completion of an approved credit counseling session from a U.S Trustee-approved non-profit credit counseling agency, like Advantage CCS. You will need this bankruptcy certificate prior to having your debts discharged. After successfully completing your Bankruptcy counseling sessions with Advantage CCS, you’ll be provided this certificate, which proves that you have received bankruptcy education and you’re ready to move forward with the official process.
